Dolores McGuire - A True Volunteer!
Dolores McGuire, FOTL vice president of membership, was named the 2015 Distinguished Award winner for her efforts in making a difference at the Central Library.
Dolores has been a leader in FOTL since she began volunteering almost 24 years ago. She has “done it all” from serving as president, vice president of the Gift Shop, vice president of Used Books and currently the vice president of membership. During the past eight years, she has managed the Used Book cashier group in addition to working in the Amazon on-line sales activities.
One of her significant contributions to the organization was leading the Gift Shop when the store recorded its highest annual revenues. This leadership continued when she assisted in the remodeling and development of selling books online through Amazon. She assisted and completed the vision of Dee San Marchi. These actions have enabled the Used Books area to increase annual sales by $60,000 per year.
When asked why she began volunteering, she replied that Margaret Reid had a lot to do with it. Years ago Dolores would rent books from Margaret, a friend and Gift Shop volunteer. Margaret suggested that once she retired she should volunteer. After 33 years with General Telephone, she retired in 1991. She used her management skills to help FOTL become the organization it is today.
When she's not mailing books to customers, she can be found spending time with her lovable grandchildren Alexandra and Henry. In addition she loves spending time in her garden. Ask Dolores about her life and she'll tell you, “I enjoy a blessed time.” A wonderful statement for a woman who is truly distinguished in everything she does.
